Scientists study people who lived long ago by studying DNA from their skeletons.
It's called ancient DNA because it is from people who lived a very long time ago. Unlike the DNA in our cells, it is broken up into little pieces.
We can find the most DNA in teeth and tiny ear bones from inside skulls.
